Scots rail fares policy reviewed

The Scottish Executive is reviewing rail fares to encourage modal shift to rail. Under the Railways Act 2005 responsibility for fares regulation passed from the UK Government to Scottish ministers. Ministers have pledged to simplify the structure to be "easily understood by passengers, to encourage people to travel by rail and to be competitive, where possible, with other modes".
