Grayling hints at rail fare rise rethink

Transport secretary Chris Grayling suggested this week that the Retail Prices Index may not be used to calculate annual increases in rail fares in future, as protests against this year’s increases were staged at railway stations.

Regulated fares in most of England and Wales increased by 3.6% on Tuesday. Increases in unregulated fares varied.
