Tackling Transport Safety for Women & Girls

Women in Transport invites you to take part in important survey

19 November 2025

Women in Transport Women’s Safety Group is committed to ensuring that every journey – whether on foot, by bike, by public transport, or by car – feels safe and accessible for women and girls and other marginalised groups.

Yet we know that many women and girls still alter routes, limit travel choices, or feel uneasy throughout their journey.

To better understand these experiences across the transport sector and support more informed decision-making, Women in Transport’s Women’s Safety Group is undertaking new research to understand how women’s safety is being addressed across the transport network, from walking and wheeling routes to parking environments, stations, interchanges, and public transport.

To part in the Baseline Survey on Tackling Transport Safety for Women & Girls will take around 5–10 minutes to complete

What this survey is about

This survey explores how safety concerns are recognised and addressed across the whole journey chain:

  • Walking, wheeling and cycling routes
  • Bus stops, stations and interchanges
  • Parking environments
  • Travelling on the network itself.

It builds on the recommendations issued by the Transport Champions in 2021, and will help Women in Transport better understand progress so far, and where further action is needed.

Why your participation matters

If you work in or engage with the transport sector, your insight will help build a clear picture of how women’s safety is being addressed in practice.

Your responses will highlight what approaches are working and where gaps remain, helping to shape effective industry strategies.

Real change requires an understanding of the broader sector landscape — your contribution provides the evidence needed to inform action.

What happens next

Results will be used to identify priorities, inform stakeholders across transport and local government, and support collaborative action to improve safety for women and girls nationwide.

Thank you for adding your voice to this essential work.
