Balfour Beatty has been awarded the contract to dual the single carriageway A421 from the Bedford Southern bypass to the M1. The 12.8km off-line road will be predominantly on the north-west side of the existing A421 and will include improvements to junction 13 of the M1 and new interchanges at Marsh Leys and Stewartby. Construction is due to start in 2008, subject to statutory processes, with the road opening in 2010.
