Government ministers have been quick to accentuate the positives in discussing the recently opened M6 Toll road in the West Midlands. In launching the consultation on plans for a tolled M6 Expressway through Staffordshire and Cheshire this summer, transport secretary Alistair Darling said the existing M6 Toll, which opened last December, had proved to be a success in reducing congestion (LTT 15 Jul). However, the data on the use of the M6 Toll merits close inspection.
