The Department for Transport has launched a public consultation on the future of MOTs in Great Britain in light of advances to vehicle technology and growing popularity of hybrids and electric vehicles.

Proposals put forward include changing the date at which the first MOT for new light vehicles – cars, motorbikes and vans –  is required from three to four years.
