New trains will aid modal shift, says Waters

New fleets of trains for Wales and Borders services will make it easier to sell modal shift, a minister claimed as he unveiled the first of 35 Stadler FLIRT trains in Cardiff.

The FLIRT trains feature low floors for level boarding at stations. In other respects they are similar to new trains introduced in many other areas of Britain, but to Wales and Borders passengers they will be a big step up from the usual Sprinters, the recently withdrawn Pacers and the unreliable second-hand Class 769...
