Three companies have been shortlisted to design, build and maintain a new fleet of trains for the Tyne and Wear Metro: CAF, Hitachi Rail, and Stadler. Nexus, the Tyne and Wear Passenger Transport Executive, has secured £337m from the Government towards the projected £362m cost of a new train fleet and maintenance depot. The winning bid will be announced next January, and the first new trains are expected to arrive in late 2021, with all the new trains delivered by 2024....
