The Welsh Government has selected eight locations to trial reducing the default speed limit from 30mph to 20mph  on restricted roads. 

Welsh ministers announced the move to a default 20mph limit?last year. Wales will be the first part of the UK to make the change. The DfT insists the matter of speed limits is for local authorities to determine. The Scottish Parliament rejected the idea of a 20mph default limit in 2019.
