The Welsh Government has abandoned plans to increase the age at which residents become eligible for free concessionary bus travel. It says it will instead develop a “more flexible” approach to concessions that takes account of costs and “passenger need”.

In 2002 Wales became the first part of Great Britain to introduce nationwide free bus travel for disabled people, women aged 60 and over and men aged 65 and over. The men’s eligibility age was soon reduced to 60...
