Attempt to axe Bristol’s mayor fails

Councillors in Bristol have rejected Conservative and Liberal Democrat motions calling for the council’s elected mayor governance model to be scrapped. 

Conservative group leader Mark Weston’s motion was defeated by 30 votes to 21, with eight abstentions. A similar Lib Dem motion was also defeated.
