A proposed enlargement of the West of England Combined Authority (WECA) to cover North Somerset Council hangs in the balance after reportedly meeting resistance from Bristol City Council’s mayor Marvin Rees.
WECA was formed in 2017 and covers three of the four unitary authorities in the former Avon County Council area: Bristol, South Gloucestershire, and Bath & North East Somerset (B&NES). The fourth, North Somerset Council, chose not to join.
