Road traffic in the UK went up by 28% between 1990 and 2017 while greenhouse gas emissions rose by 6% during the same period, according to a new report from the Office for National Statistics (ONS).
The lower rate of emissions growth was most likely due to improvements in the fuel efficiency and emissions from newer vehicles, says the report.
