I was very interested in your editorial ‘Park-and-ride blues’ (LTT 21 Jun). However, I feel that you are underplaying the usefulness of park-and-ride as a policy tool by seeing it as predominantly a mechanism for accessing town and city centres.

On a typical day, York’s six park-and-ride sites will have around 2,000 cars parked at them. That’s a significant number – if those cars were formed into a single-file queue it would be more than long enough to link the...
