Higher HGV speed limit ‘may be safer’

raising the speed limit for lorries on single carriageway roads in England and Wales has helped increase average speeds  and may have benefitted road safety, says a new report for the DfT.

The HGV speed limit was raised from 40mph to 50mph on single carriageway roads and from 50mph to 60mph on dual carriageway roads in 2015. 

The year two evaluation report by AECOM says that, on single carriageways, the number of speeding lorries has fallen 68 per cent and the average speed of HGVs...
