Minister approves Birmingham’s Class D CAZ

Drivers of older cars will have to pay daily charges to enter Birmingham city centre from January 2020 after the Government approved the council’s plan for a charging clean air zone (CAZ) to cut illegal concentrations of nitrogen dioxide.

The Class D CAZ will cover roads within the A4540 ring road. Non-compliant cars, taxis and private hire vehicles will be charged £8 a day and non-compliant HGVs, buses and coaches £50.
