Wales to raise free bus travel age

The Welsh Government is proposing to raise the eligibility age for free bus travel from 60 as it seeks to curb the rising cost of its nationwide concessionary travel scheme.

The scheme was launched in 2002 to provide free bus passes to disabled people and pensioners, defined as women aged 60 and over and men aged 65 and over. For equality purposes, the eligibility age for men was subsequently reduced to 60.
