Unitary status for Leicestershire?

Leicestershire County Council is preparing a proposal for a unitary Leicestershire to replace the current two-tier structure of the county and seven district councils. Meanwhile, councils in the East Midlands are exploring forming a ‘strategic alliance’ that could oversee matters such as strategic planning and economic development. This could cover six local transport authorities: Leicester, Leicestershire, Derby, Derbyshire, Nottingham, and Nottinghamshire....
