Five universities are in the running for cycle hire schemes funded by Santander bank under its university challenge competition.
The University of Birmingham; Brunel University London; University of Portsmouth; University of Surrey; and Swansea University have been shortlisted from 23 entrants.
Each must run a crowdfunding campaign for a month from early November to raise funds to meet the operating costs of its proposal.
