Walking routes could save council bus cash

Officers at Conwy County Borough Council in North Wales are to review the safety of walking routes to three schools, with a view to withdrawing free transport for hundreds of pupils, saving about £200,000 a year. 

Eligibility for home to school transport is usually defined by the distance between a pupil’s home and school, but local authorities also provide transport where the walking route is deemed too hazardous for children or teenagers.
