A trial commuter vanpooling scheme could be set up in Aberdeen under proposals being studied by mobility management firm Vipre.
Vanpooling is an idea popular in the US and the Netherlands but is unknown in the UK - though it does get a mention in the DfT's Travel plan resource pack for employers updated in December 2005. Vipre estimates there are 20,000 vanpools operating in the US but the only trial in the UK, undertaken three years ago at Manchester Airport, was unsuccessful.
