The Freight Transport Association has voiced alarm at reports that the Prime Minister has asked transport secretary Patrick McLoughlin to investigate the possibility of HGV bans in cities to improve cyclist safety.
Christopher Snelling, the FTA’s head of urban logistics, said: “Even a medium-sized lorry would have to be replaced with ten vans – which means overall safety would not be improved, let alone the emissions and congestion consequences.”
