Travel planners need to expand their expertise beyond transport

Garrett Emmerson suggests that travel plan advisers obtain sales and marketing qualifications as a way of raising the status of their role within the constraints of local authority job evaluation schemes ('Marketing qualifications for travel planners?' LTT?8 Feb). With such qualifications advisers would be aware that one function of marketing is to establish what the customer wants, and the answer might not be a travel plan.
