Rail freight subsidies are still justified, says lorry cost review

Road freight fails to pay its full societal costs by a large margin according to a new report for the rail freight industry, which is pressing the Government to retain a grant regime for shifting goods from road to rail. 

Lobby group Freight on Rail commissioned consultant the Metropolitan Transport Research Unit (MTRU) to review road freight costs.
