Scottish minister for transport Stewart Stevenson has announced that a public local inquiry into the M8 Baillieston to Newhouse upgrade scheme will begin on 1 July. The scheme comprises a new 13km section of motorway between the M73 at Baillieston and the A73 at Newhouse. It will be an extension of the dual two-lane motorway from Edinburgh, widening to dual three-lane at Chapelhall Junction where the traffic from the proposed Ravenscraig and Newhouse developments would join the motorway.
