Extend green man crossing times, say campaigners

Pedestrian campaign group Living Streets is calling for an extra three seconds of green man time on pedestrian crossings to allow the elderly to cross in comfort.

The group says research by University College London’s department of epidemiology and public health has found that many people over 65 walk much slower than the current assumed walking speed of 1.2 metres per second in the DfT guidelines for pedestrian crossings.
