Train operator Southern has placed a £180m order with Bombardier for a further 116 Electric Multiple Unit carriages that will initially be used on Thameslink services, thereby allowing existing Thameslink stock to be moved to newly electrified parts of England’s rail network. Siemens is delivering 1,140 carriages for Thameslink, which will be introduced from 2016 to 2018.
