Birmingham seeks big slice of air travel

Birmingham Airport has unveiled a new plan to boost passenger numbers through the airport to 70 million a year, from the current 8.9 million.

Birmingham’s plan would require a second runway at the airport, which could be built to complement the proposed HS2 high-speed rail line station. Work to extend the existing runway, at a cost of £33m, is due to be completed in early 2014.
