Transport for Greater Manchester has identified five rail lines in the conurbation that could be converted to tram-train operation at an estimated cost of about £870m.
The lines and the estimated conversion costs are: Altrincham/Hale (£50m); Marple (£200m); Glossop (£240m); Hazel Grove (£100m); and Atherton (£280m).
The projects are part of a much larger £3bn list of potential future transport investments.
