A major shake-up to bus subsidy in England was announced this week with the partial devolution of Bus Service Operators Grant (BSOG) to local authorities.

The plan – revealed by LTT in February (LTT 17 Feb) – will see local authorities outside London receive the proportion of BSOG that is currently paid to operators for tendered service mileage. Councils will have to spend the funds on bus services.
