Cycle lanes in Cardiff should not be identified with coloured surfacing, according to a new cycle infrastructure design guide published by the city council.

The guide says the council’s experience of using coloured surfacing shows they “tend to be of variable quality, carry a higher implementation and maintenance cost, [are] more visually intrusive, and are prone to wear”. Coloured surfacing should only be used in circumstances such as “points of conflict, at locations...
