Passengers will be able to make most public transport journeys in England with smart ticketing technologies such as smartcards or mobile phones within four years if the DfT gets its way.
“The Government is committed to delivering, with operators and public sector bodies, the infrastructure to enable most public transport journeys to be undertaken using smart ticketing technology by December 2014,” says the White Paper.
