West End gets new car club

Westminster City Council has launched a car club scheme in partnership with Zipcar. The club has more than 70 vehicles, in the borough including 20 ‘green’ hybrid cars.

Zipcar aims to increase its fleet to 400 in Westminster by 2012 with 30% being hybrid vehicles. The council has provided £200,000 in funding for its first year of operation, followed by a further £70,000 for each subsequent year to cover costs and vehicle purchase.
