The much anticipated Glasgow Airport Rail Link has become a victim of spending cuts with the Scottish Government taking the axe to the £100m scheme in a bid to ease pressure on the public purse after the cost of the project significantly increased.

Scottish finance secretary John Swinney announced that the SNP-led government was ditching the project as part of its austerity budget to cover the first fall in public spending since the advent of devolution in 1999.
