Rail patronage growth slows sharply during the autumn

Growth in rail patronage and revenue slowed markedly during the autumn, according to the latest figures published last month by the Office of Rail Regulation, covering the September to December quarter.

Looking at the statistics for the three months, it is clear that growth in all three sectors was slower last autumn than in previous years.

Passenger kilometres on InterCity routes were 2.6% higher, compared with 3.1% in 2007 and growth of over 6% in each of the previous three years.
