Cumbria reviews bus subsidy spend

Cumbria County Council is conducting a review of subsidised bus services with a view to withdrawing some services from the start of the next financial year. Ian Stewart, Cumbria's cabinet member for transport, said the council had never had formal criteria for determining where subsidy was spent. "Some routes are enormously expensive to support. They can cost over £20 per passenger for every journey made, and that's on top of the fare paid by the passenger."...
