Plans for a bus-based, and ultimately autonomous, rapid transit system serving Cambridge and its surroundings are to be developed by the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority. 

The CA board, chaired by elected mayor James Palmer, this week approved a new £600,000 study into a system dubbed Cambridge Autonomous Metro (CAM). The decision follows a review of three different mass transit technologies by consultant Steer Davies Gleave.
