Trains between London Paddington and Swansea should be operated by a new franchise procured and managed by the Welsh Government, Welsh transport secretary Ken Skates has suggested.

The DfT has proposed re-mapping services currently operated by Great Western Railway to form two future franchises (LTT 08 Dec 17). One would cover intercity markets between London, Bristol, South Wales and the Cotswolds, outer suburban and branch line services in the Thames Valley, and potentially future services...
