Khan reviews TfL severance pay

08 June 2018

London mayor Sadiq Khan has launched a review into senior staff severance pay across the Greater London Authority after it emerged that Transport for London paid out more than £50m in severance during 2017/18, the second year running the figure has been this high. As part of its efficiency programme, TfL has reduced the number of staff on a base salary of more than £100,000 from 189 in 2016/17 to 169 in 2017/18. But during 2017/18, 224 TfL staff who were on base salaries below £100,000 received severance payments that took their remuneration above £100,000. The review will not affect the contracts of existing staff but will make recommendations for new contracts for employees on salaries above about £100,000.
