Campaigning for roads was a lot of fun. But what does the future hold for Britain’s motorists?

Back in 1988, after seeking fame and fortune in Hollywood, I came back to the UK and thought I had better try to get a proper job. Having spotted a job for a campaigns manager at the British Road Federation I thought I would give it a go. I didn’t have any great affinity to roads but thought it sounded interesting. Due to a postal strike I decided to deliver my application by hand to the BRF in Portugal Street.
