It seems extraordinary that the Government is struggling to find solutions to growing CO2 emissions and motor traffic congestion while it accepts the continuing and massive promotion of car purchase and car use. In 2005 car companies in the UK spent in excess of £450m promoting motor vehicles.

Faced with such massive motor vehicle promotion is it any surprise that people buy more of them regardless of convenience, common sense, or concerns about the environment and health?
