Local authorities in South Yorkshire are lobbying the Highways Agency to retain its more relaxed development control policy in the conurbation beyond the previously agreed end date of next December.
The HA can block planning applications by issuing Article 14 directions and/or insist a developer funds transport infrastructure improvements if it believes that the development would affect the efficient or safe operation of the trunk road network over the 15 years after opening.
