Concerns are growing over the impact of applying a planned £2 bus and coach fare cap for the whole of Scotland, with the viability of rural railways potentially being undermined.
Last year, the SNP minority Scottish Government had agreed to pilot a £2 fare cap in one region, in order to get enough opposition MSPs to support its budget. The 12-month pilot began in January to March in the Hitrans (Highland) and ZetTrans (Shetland) regional transport partnership areas.
