Cycles outnumber cars for first time on busy route in central Glasgow

There were more bikes than cars during peak hours on a busy route in Glasgow city centre for the first time since surveys began, new research shows.

Surveys by Cycling Scotland found that bikes outnumbered cars at both rush?hour peaks (8-9am and 5-6pm) on Victoria Road, averaging 334 bikes to 270 cars.

Over a 48?hour period in September 2025, the Cycling Scotland surveys recorded 5,287 bikes on Victoria Road as part of the South City Way. This was out of a total of 32,894 travel methods...
