West Midlands increases transport levy to 3% to help plug £120m funding gap

A huge funding gap in the West Midlands transport budget has been mostly closed through a range of measures including a 3% rise in the Transport Levy, which each of the region’s seven local authorities has to pay, along with an increase  in metro fares.

Earlier this year West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA) identified a projected £119.8m funding gap for Transport in 2026/27, rising to £139m by 2029/30.
