Durham County Council is seeking to launch a lane rental scheme to charge utility companies and contractors for roadworks on high-traffic routes during peak times. The scheme would reduce disruption on the county’s roads by encouraging off-peak scheduling, alternative locations, and joint working, said the council.
It has submitted a proposal to the DfT and expects to receive a decision in January.
