Changes in road policing are giving local authorities an excuse to do nothing to improve road safety, Scottish Transport Secretary Fiona Hyslop has said.

Last year, His Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabulary in Scotland said that the number of recorded road offences had reduced by 63% since 2013, while road casualty numbers had increased each year since 2020. It expressed concern that Police Scotland had decreased enforcement activity, and urged the force to review its commitment to roads...
