The Dartmoor Line exceeded passenger forecasts for the first two years since its reopening in November 2021, but has fallen short in more recent periods, according to an evaluation released last month by the DfT.
Despite the line’s rural nature, the evaluation found that it generates an operating surplus, rather than requiring a subsidy. There was also evidence of modal shift, from the car in particular.
