DfT transport economist Henry Kelly passed away suddenly in July whilst on holiday in France, at the age of 40.
Known to many for his work on HS2, Northern Powerhouse Rail and Midlands Rail Hub projects, amongst many others during his career with both DfT and Midlands Connect STB, he was one of the most talented transport professionals of his generation.
Well-read, well-travelled, urbane, entrepreneurial, bibulous - combining an always-curious mind with a genuinely kind and supportive approach to colleagues, as well as complete disregard for civil service dress codes - Henry Kelly was one of the memorable personalities of the transport scene, and is a great loss.
He skippered the DfT quiz team to first place in London in the Transport Planning Society annual quiz in successive years. A memorial will be held for him on Sunday 5 October, 2pm at Scarborough Unitarian Church.
