Alexander approves Simister scheme but calls for active travel underpass plan

Transport Secretary Heidi Alexander has approved the Simister Island road scheme in Greater Manchester, which National Highways estimates will take two years to build and cost between £207m and £340m. The project, affecting the M60, M62 and M66 routes, would see a “northern loop” built to allow thousands of vehicles a day to bypass the current traffic light-controlled roundabout.
